Excited to Launch: Introducing the New Rig for Steel Dreamin’ Guide Service!

Hey everyone, Captain Gabe Dennison here from Steel Dreamin’ Guide Service!

If you’ve followed along on Facebook or booked a trip with us before, you know West Michigan’s rivers are my office—and they’re some of the best in the country for chasing chrome-bright steelhead in spring, hard-fighting Chinook and Coho salmon in fall, and trophy trout year-round. After more than two decades on the water, I’m always looking for ways to make your guided experience even better: safer, more comfortable, and more effective at putting you on fish.
That’s why I’m thrilled to share some big news: we’ve been hard at work on a brand-new boat build over the past few months!
While Michigan’s winter had us all bundled up (and the rivers iced over), I stayed plenty busy in the shop turning this project from plans to reality. It was the perfect off-season project—keeping the “steel dreamin'” alive even when the temps were sub-zero. Just a couple more tweaks, and this rig will be ready to hit the water for the upcoming spring steelhead run and beyond.

Why a New Boat Matters for Your Trip

Our guided trips have always focused on quality over quantity: small groups (max 4 anglers), personalized attention, and proven techniques like artificial lures, hardware, and reading the river’s subtle cues. The new boat builds on that foundation with upgrades designed specifically for Michigan’s western rivers:

  • Improved stability and handling — Easier maneuvering in faster currents and tighter spots on the Muskegon River, Grand River, or Big Manistee River.
  • Enhanced comfort — Better seating, storage, and protection from the elements so you can focus on the bite, not the wind or spray.
  • Fish-fighting efficiency — Thoughtful layout for multiple rods, quick access to gear, and space to land those acrobatic steelhead or powerful salmon without hassle.

This isn’t just about shiny new gear—it’s about elevating every trip so you create more memories, catch more fish, and leave wanting to book again.

Sneak Peek & What’s Next

From framing to finishing touches, it’s been a labor of love. Soon, you’ll see action shots of this beauty drifting through those classic Michigan runs, clientshooked up, and fish in the net.
The timing couldn’t be better—with spring steelhead pushing upstream and the snow finally melting, we’re gearing up for what promises to be an epic season. Spots are filling fast for prime dates, so if you’re thinking about a guided trip, now’s the time to lock it in.
